The Laboratory Management ISO/IEC 1702 standard helps businesses that operate testing and calibration laboratories. The standard specifies the general requirements for the competence, impartiality and consistent operation of laboratories. ISO/IEC 17025 can be applied to all organisations performing laboratory activities, regardless of the number of personnel, size or lab ownership.

The standard helps facilitate cooperation between laboratories and other bodies by generating wider acceptance of results between countries. Test reports and certificates can be accepted from one country to another without the need for further testing, which, in turn, improves international trade. 

 

The current 2018 version of the standard supersedes the 2005 version and covers technical changes, vocabulary and developments in IT techniques. It also takes into consideration the latest version of ISO 9001 Quality Management.
